Day 09 - Yulara
Our accommodation in Yulara -The Lost Camel - was comfortable and centrally located (Yulara township is not very big). In fact, there is a little hillock just outside the hotel from which one could see the whole township plus a spectacular sunset. However, we were to have a much more traditional sunset function later today.
The first item of the day after breakfast was to visit the Uluru Cultural Centre close to the famed 'Rock'. It was very cold when we got there and walked round the centre. We were also planning to have a cup of coffee there as the next item on the agenda was to walk near the central Uluru rock.
As luck would have it, only the cultural walk was open and none of shops would open till 10.00am. We were too early. I rang the driver and we arranged to do the rock inspection before doing the cultural precinct.
What we saw is best told in pictures.
Lovely entrance to the cultural precinct.
Morning sun on the rock and the dry vegetation of the area.
Rain water flowing down the weathered rock has created little pools (providing us with an excuse for taking yet another photograph)
There are many natural caves that the First Australians had lived in, and decorated with frescos.

Along with the weathered ancient rock, there were weathered ancient people too.
We visited the Cultural Centre again and examined the large collection of Indigenous artifacts, including studios where the artists were creating their paintings (impressive). Had a coffee too before returning to Yulara for lunch and a free afternoon - there's still the Uluru sunset to go to in the evening.
Were driven to Uluru for a beer and wine and a sausage sizzle and spectacular sunset. Uluru at sunset is really something to see...
...and to be photographed in front of...
... again and again...
Then the sun actually goes down.
Then it's time for dinner and bed.
